Son of James Douglas, marquess of Douglas and Mary Kerr; 1758 m. Margaret Douglas. 1703 created duke of Douglas which became extinct after his death; Lord lieutenant of Forfarshire during the Jacobite rising of 1715. Killed his relative John Kerr in 1725.
