Defendant John "Buddy" Belcher appears in court with his mother and brother and his attorney, public defender Dale Jones. Belcher, a guard, was charged with smuggling a gun into the Essex County Jail, which inmates used in an 1980 escape attempt that resulted in a siege. Prosecutor Donald S.
