Personal letter from Tompkins to her mother and father, detailing a visit from Mabel Walker Willebrandt to the School of Law (at Tompkin's request). Willebrandt was the U.S. Assistant Attorney General at the time -- only the second woman to have that appointment. The faculty, including Dean Lile, was so captivated by Mrs. Willebrandt that she stayed an extra day to address the entire law school. "But Mrs. Willebrandt won them all by her brains, her whole womanly attitude, and her beauty and Mr. Lile ate out of her hands."
